jake is growing up so fast. it's really hard to believe that he's 15 months old. he is your typical boy...into everything, on the go non-stop, and extremely destructive. we went for his 15 month check up today and jake weighs 26 lbs. and 6 oz. (91st percentile), he's 32 3/4 inches long (94th percentile), and his head circumference is 19 1/2 (98th percentile). i think a man at our church said it right.... "i think we have a linebacker on our hands". jake is just a big boy. he towers over most toddlers his age. random people in stores or restaurants ask how old he is and when i tell them...they think i'm kidding. then it's always followed with "wow, he's a BIG boy!" yes....thank you....we feed him well. jake is a wonderful eater. he will eat whatever you put in front of him. the only two things he will not eat are eggs and lima beans. dr. chea said since he gained weight we can switch from whole milk to 2%. he met and exceeded some of his developmental milestones. jake definitely understands simple commands such as, "let's throw that away" (off to the trash can he goes to throw it away), "let's take a bath" (he goes to the bathroom and stands in front of the bathtub), "where are your blocks" (he goes and gets them), "where's big bird, elmo, cookie monster" (he points to them in books), where are mommy's eyes" (he proceeds to poke my eye out), and "let's go outside" (he goes and waits at the door). he's been walking since 13 1/2 months. he loves to throw balls. he tries to feed himself. he gives toys to us if we ask and he also will take them too. here's where he's a little advanced....his language. i posted a list of words earlier that he can say. well today in the doctor's office, we were reading a few books while we were waiting for dr. chea to come in. when she walked in the door he was just babbling. then as clear as day, he pointed to his cookie monster book and said "cookie". we all looked at each other in astonishment! did he really just say that?! dr. chea asked what other words he could say and we told her. she said his language development is that of a 18 month old. i am just thankful that he is healthy and is growing smarter every day.

words

jake has added some new words to his vocabulary here lately. i thought i should write them down before i forget. here they are ::
ki-ki - kitty
puh-pee - puppy
O-wow - oh wow
O-my - oh my
da-dee - daddy (with lots of emphasis on the "dee" part)
ma-mee - mommy (with lots of emphasis on the "mee" part)
ba-ba - barbara
dat - that
go-go - go
ga-ga - gone gone
buh-buh - bye bye (accompanied by a wave and sometimes blowing a kiss)
pop-pa - papa
me-me - grandma (we think)
uh-oh - uh-oh (he says that one very clearly)
unh-uh - no (with his head shaking no)
ya-ya-ya - not sure what this one is but he does it and shakes his head back and forth from side to side
and for sign language he's mastered "more" "light"and "toothbrush"
we've got quite the talker and i don't mind a bit. i'm glad he's developing language skills. he can "jibber-jabber" all he wants. i love to listen to it!

and just to brag a little more....jake catches onto everything thing we do. he knows how to get water out of the water dispenser on the refrigerator all by himself (hence the picture above). he can flush the toilet (which was dangerous for a while...but with a little discipline, he's gotten much better). he picks up his blocks and puts them back in the bucket. he watches us. he's so observant. i'm really hoping that he continues to be a fast learner.
