i was having a bad day. josh was giving me a hug, and of course, i began to cry. jake walked up and asked me why i was crying. without going to deep, i just said "mommy had a tough day today." and this is what my sweet, loving child did. he ran to get his stool, pushed josh out of the way, climbed on his stool and hugged me. he told josh that he would take care of me and for josh to get me some water. then proceeded to take my hand, walked me to my bedroom, told me to lay down. he started stroking my arm and asked the following questions….he took no breaths between the questions and i literally had no time to answer him.
mommy, you need to take a nap. do you want some milk? juice? water? i can make you a sandwich if you like. well, daddy can make it for you. i can't reach all the stuff yet. or would you like me to get you some of my new cereal i just got. you'll really love it! wait, let me get you a blanket. (runs to get a blanket) mommy, do you want me to leave the light on or turn it off? will you be too scared of the dark if i turn it off? well, let's just leave it on. now just close your eyes and go to sleep. i'll be back in 5 minutes to check on you. don't worry mommy. i'll take care of you. i love you. now go to sleep. (kisses me on the head)
lord have mercy…..it was the sweetest little 5 minutes of the day. even though jake can be a handful at times and very bossy at times too, i love that he still has this super sweet, loving and caring attitude. it totally made my day much better. thanks jake! i love you, buddy!

12 months old
this adorable little girl is now 12 months old. she is very active, loves to follow her big brother around, and her favorite thing to play with is the remote. she will sneak over to the couch, look to see if someone is looking at her, grab the remote, and then let out a huge squeal while holding the remote high in the air. she has quite the little personality. she knows what she wants and will most certainly pitch a fit if she doesn't get it. it's amazing how two children can be complete opposites!
allie had her 12 month check up a week late due to her running a high fever for 4 days. she weighs 24 pounds (95 percentile). she is 31 1/2 inches long (99th percentile) and her head measures 18.5 (85th percentile). needless to say, she's uh, healthy. very healthy. she skipped over 12-18 month clothes and went straight to 18-24 month and even some 2T clothes. she wears size 4 diapers. this child loves LOVES to eat. we have been working on sign language with her and she signs "eat more" all day long. some of her favorites are yogurt, spaghetti, fish, green beans, ice cream (yes i let my child have a little ice cream….it's called child #2), mixed fruit and oranges. she really will eat anything you put in front of her! she's a great eater!
speaking of talking, she can say "ma ma" "da da" "bye bye" "uh-oh" "ta-you" (thank you) and "ba ba" (barbara). she can sign: eat, more, please, thank you, light, drink, yes, and no. she loves to try to sing and certainly loves to dance. she really likes when thomas the train comes on tv and when doc mcstuffins comes on too. she just bounces away. she's not walking yet. i'm not rushing that one.
she's our little bundle of joy that's growing up way too quickly. we are so very thankful for her.

allie's first birthday
this sweet little girl turned one this past week! it's hard to believe because i can vividly remember being 39 weeks pregnant and going for an early morning ob appointment for another bpp on her and being sent over to the hospital to welcome her into the world. crazy how fast time flies. allie throughly enjoyed her first birthday party. it was a small party (compared to jake's) and our closest family and friends were there to help us celebrate. i'd say her favorite was eating her cake. (proof below)
thanks to everyone who came and brought gifts. (and to grandma fiske for helping me with the food and dishes) allie is loved so very much by so many people. we are thankful that the Lord chose us to be her parents. we look forward to the many wonderful years to come! we love you, honey!

random thoughts
today i was told this:: you're babies have really close birthday's. you could have joint parties.
so i got to thinking. jake was due on march 3, but came 2 weeks early on february 21. allie was due on march 8th, but came on march 5. now……jake was born via c-section and because there were no complications on my end, i was able to elect for a vbac with allie. now, let's think. IF i would have elected to have a repeat c-section with allie, she would have been born on february 22. that, my friends, would be a reason to have joint parties. but since their birthday's are approximately 2 weeks apart, we will have separate parties until i feel they can handle a joint party.
those are just my random thoughts. i didn't realize how close their birthday's would have been until today. interesting.
