they're back!

i thought jake was finished with the ear infections! well, they're back! this morning jake woke up just as i was getting ready to leave. ms. barbara walked in to get him and he was crying for me. so of course, i stayed a few minutes to hold him and love on him. as i was holding him i noticed that the inside of his ear was really dark. as i looked closer, it was blood. i couldn't believe my eyes. really???....bleeding from the ears can't be a good thing. barbara looked too and suggested that i call the doctor. i decided to go to school, get everything ready for a sub, and i would leave when i got an appointment time. on the way to school i called the phone nurse to see what she suggested to do. she said to definitely bring him in. how about the doctor's office called ME and asked how soon i could get there. (talk about making a mommy worry even more!) i got an appointment for 9:45. rush...rush...rush. luckily we made it there with 2 minutes to spare. whew...cuttin' it close! we waited for what seemed like an eternity (to this worried mommy). dr. chea looked and said that his ear was definitely infected. she saw a bunch of puss and blood so she couldn't see to check on his tube. (the tube in his other ear looked perfect). so we've got an oral medicine, ear drops, and an appointment scheduled in 3 weeks for a recheck and to see if the tube in that ear is there or not. did i mention no fever!?! yep....jake is notorious for NOT running a fever when he's sick. he's gonna be a tricky one!!! this child sure does keep me on my toes!!!

gross, huh?!? (and this looks WAY better than it did this morning. the drops have made it begin draining)

there's a first time for everything

today was no different than any other day. we had to go to target to get jake some more diapers. we always look at the toys and jake always walks away without a problem......until today.

oh. my. word.

it. was. terrible.

he wanted another thomas the train toy. we (josh and i) said no. we told jake it was time to go home and when we got home, we'd play with all his trains. well that was NOT what jake wanted. we knew we had to prove a point. we stood our ground and did not give in. i picked up a very unhappy, screaming jake. and moms, you know that "limp" thing they do....yep he did it. i almost dropped him. so i just laid him in the floor and let him pitch a fit. right there in the middle of target. yep....we were the center of attention. majority of the people just walked by and smiled. but this little old lady (no offense to anyone) just stood and watched. she kept saying "oh my, oh my." jake finally calmed down enough for me to pick him back up. josh went to check out and jake and i went straight to the car. once we got out the door, i popped him twice. i explained to him that he cannot pitch a fit when he doesn't get what he wants. as soon as we got in the car, he was fine. i told him i loved him and we would play with his trains when we got home. i asked him to apologize to mommy and daddy. he said "sowwy, mommy, sowwy, daddy".

being a parent is quite challenging. but i sure do love it. the Lord tells us to "train up a child in the way that he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it" (proverbs 22:6). "discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart" (proverbs 29:17).

big boy talk

jake never ceases to amaze me with some of the sentences he puts together. as of last saturday, he has been using LOTS of complete sentences when talking to us. here are just a few::

"mommy, look at dat pane! i see dat pane!"
"jake go for a wak. come on mommy! come on daddy! wet's go wak." (walk)
"i hear dat bird. dat bird singing elmo's song."
"jake want chicken nuggets."
"aw done mommy, no more to eat."
"mommy, wet's wead dis book. wet's wead thomas da train."
"daddy dwiving da car. good job daddy."
"wet's go outside. blow bubbles mommy....BIG bubbles!"
"i see a BIG chuck (truck). da big chuck blow da horn." - side note....the big truck's horn scared jake!

jake still says some words that we are unsure of what he's saying. but for the most part, he's very easy to understand. i'm loving this "big boy talk."

meeting baby parker

today jake, my momma, and i got to go visit my friend dana (my teaching buddy) and her precious little boy parker. **parker is technically still supposed to being in dana's tummy (was due march 18th).....but he was born 4 1/2 weeks early due to dana having pre-clampsia. but no worries. baby parker is doing great and is such a sweet baby!!!** jake was very excited about bringing "da baby da present." once we got there, jake was super shy but curious at the same time. you could tell he wanted to go see parker but just wasn't sure about doing it. he finally warmed up when dana was opening the present for parker. jake saw a toy and wanted to give it to parker. jake couldn't quite understand why parker wouldn't hold the toy.

when we left jake kept saying "bye baby". and in the car jake said "dana and parker's house" (meaning we had just left their house). then he said "parker night-night and dana give jake goldfish....play 'gin (again)." so we'll definitely have to have a few play dates with sweet parker during the summer. i think jake is gonna be a good big brother......when the time comes!!!
