he melts my heart

at school on friday, one of my students brought treat bags for the class.  after he passed them all out, he walked up to me and said "mrs. slatten, this one is for jake. i hope he likes it!"  i told him how sweet it was of him to think of jake, hugged him and thanked him.  when i got home, jake was so excited to receive a present from one of my kids at school.  he opened it and said "wow....dis is so cool!!"  we had to have a discussion as to why he couldn't eat all the candy in the bag.  i told him he could have two pieces and no more.  i explained that too much candy might give him a tummy ache.  he was okay with my answer.  he ate his two pieces and asked for no more!  (ummm....that was easy.)

fast forward to sunday night at our church.  we had "trunk or treat" and jake was so excited about wearing his buzz lightyear costume and getting some candy.  he clammed up (as usual) when we arrived because there were so many people.  he wasn't as excited about getting candy anymore.  josh walked jake through while my mom and i passed out candy.  when jake go to me i said "jake, where's all your candy?" he said "mommy, dis enough candy. i not want to get a tummy-ache."  then proceeded to say "i give my candy to da other kids.....i help you mommy!" my heart filled with pride....here is my 2 1/2 year old being selfless.  i am having to hold back the tears!!  i. love. my. little. boy.

it melts my heart that my child already has a giving heart.  he would rather give than receive.  i am so thankful that the Lord is already moving in his little heart!

tonight, we had the "big reveal" at fuddruckers.  i really wanted to see everyone's reactions in person, rather than just hear their reactions on the phone.  i made cupcakes with the appropriate filling, had the hershey bars (colored either "he" or "she"), and had a "team pink" and "team blue" sign.  the night was perfect. we were surrounded by our family and friends!  doesn't get much better than that!  and..........so it's a.....................

a retelling of our day told by jake

we had a busy morning.  according to jake, this is how it went (and he's exactly right).

mommy, you take a shower first den (then) i take a shower, but i not wash my hair.  we went to get my haircut and ashwey (ashley) wash my hair and cut my hair and my hair go everywhere.  den (then), we take you to the doctor.  mommy, you got to see TWO doctors!  dat doctor turn on da wight (light) and look at your boo-boo's.  den you put on a pretty dress (the lovely drape thingy they give you) and dat doctor give you some medicine to make you feewl AWWW (all) better.  den we eat lunch wif uncle john and gramma.  now we at home making some YUMMY cupcakes!"

yes. my child definitely retold the morning very accurately. what can i say?!? he's a genius!!!

side note: (in case your wondering) nothing's wrong with the baby.  we went to a wedding on sunday and sat on bales of hay.  i thought i was having an allergic reaction, but the doctor said it was probably just some sort of mite (probably chiggers) that literally had a feast on backside, legs and lower back.  trust me.....it looks very disgusting.  in jake's words "wow mommy! you got a lot of boo-boo's on your bottom!"  and....well....he's right! but luckily, i was doing all the right things and the doctor gave me a stronger cream to use to help the itching.  hopefully, (he says) it should start going away sometime next week.

the "big" ultrasound

josh and i went for the gender ultrasound/20 week check up today.  blood pressure 138/88 (which i thought was wonderful....considering it was always through the roof during my pregnancy with jake).  weight gain....definitely called that one.  FOUR pounds in four weeks! luckily, no one said anything about that!  the ultrasound tech called us back and that's where the fun began.  all the baby's measurements were great.  however, apparently we have a rather stubborn baby on our hands.  the baby just wouldn't move from this one position for the ultrasound tech to get a good "face/profile" picture.  nor could the ultrasound tech get a good picture of it's heart.  so........lucky us!  i get to have another ultrasound at the next appointment.  the baby is measuring right on target and weighs about 11 ounces.  it's heart rate was 155.

make sure you read the blog on friday to find out if the baby is a boy or girl.  (as for now....if i ignore you or don't make eye contact with you, i'm not being rude.  i just don't want to accidentally slip and tell what the baby is.) here's to keeping my mouth shut for 3 days!!! wish me luck!!! ( i know you hate me right now.)

19 weeks

october 16th is approaching ever so quickly and i am so excited to find out if we are having a boy or girl.  josh's gut says girl.....my gut says girl.....jake has said "baby sister" from the very beginning.  however, here lately jake has been saying "my baby brudur" more than he says sister.  hmmmm??  i think he's making me change my mind. i would LOVE to have another boy, but i also think it would be fun to have one of each.  anyway, we are planning to have a gender reveal party on the 19th to tell our friends and family.  so josh and i have to keep it zipped for three, THREE days! holy cow.....that's gonna be hard!  here is the 19 week update::

maternity clothes:: maternity jeans, some maternity shirts, normal dress pants (thanks to the bella bands...but not for much longer)

size of the baby:: 6 inches long and weighs about 8 1/2 ounces

next appointment:: october 16th......will it be a boy or girl???

other:: this baby loves when i eat.....i can feel him/her moving every time i eat something! and here's a picture of me.....finally.

16 weeks

i went to the OB a few tuesdays ago for the 16 week check up. (yes this post is late) everything seems to be on track and for once, my blood pressure wasn't too incredibly bad. (140/89) my hemoglobin was 13.4 so i won't have to get my finger pricked next time. (woo-hoo!) so here's the 16 week update::

food adversions::  still avoiding mexican and grilled hot dogs

nausea:: none (yay!!!)

energy:: coming back very slowly.....more energy during the day, still the "party-pooper" at night

weight gain:: proud so say that only 4 lbs. so far.....that's only a pound a month!

mood::  mostly calm, easy-going, emotional

maternity clothes::  still wearing normal shirts and dress pants (thanks to bella bands), but maternity jeans are just so much more comfortable!

size of the baby:: about 4 1/2 inches long and weighs about 3 1/2 ounces.

next appointment:: october 16th.....boy or girl?????

other:: i think i may have felt the baby moving, but i haven't felt it since.  (perhaps it was just gas??? lol)
