potty training 101

my goals this summer for jake were to get him potty trained and get rid of the paci.  a week after school was out, i gave potty training a big push.  and.....nothing.  jake wasn't ready.  he'd have an accident and it would result in a major meltdown.  i knew he wasn't ready and i didn't push anymore.  i gave up and said i'd try again next summer (after many people told me boys typically potty train closer to the age of 3).

fast forward to last friday (july 13).  jake, just out of the blue, said "i go pee-pee on da potty mommy! c'mon! huwwy!!!" so we literally ran to the potty and he for real did it!!!  i couldn't believe it!!!!  as soon as daddy got home, we went to the store to buy him a new toy......thomas the train, of course.  i was so excited and then saturday, nothing.  ugh! really?!? did he just pee in the potty to get a toy? did i really just get tricked by my two year old?!?  sunday, he wanted to sit on the potty, but nothing again.

yesterday (monday), i decided that we were going to hit this potty training hard. i thought to myself  "he's interested and i have to keep the momentum going!"  we bought some training underwear and he was excited to put them on. we also bought some "cars" pull-ups and those were a huge hit also.  what a huge success......he went pee-pee 6 times and poo-poo once.  he was so proud of himself.....and one time he got up and shouted "i pee-pee in da potty mommy. yay!!" then he proceeded to give me a huge hug.  y'all, talk about melt. my. heart!!!  (and only one accident today....i was very impressed.)

and today (tuesday), he woke me up at 7:30am and said in a sweet, little whisper voice, "mommy, i go pee-pee in da potty. c'mon mommy, wet's go!"  and guess what?!? he wanted to go in the big potty.  and he did!!!!  i'm so proud of him!! i really thought potty training was going to be so much harder, but i'm really happy with how well it's going.
