it's 4:43 a.m. and i can't sleep. i had my 38 week check up yesterday. it was quite the whirlwind appointment. my blood pressure was through the roof (140/100). i laid down for a little while and they took it again....126/80. perfect. ummm....not so much. i had told the nurse that my braxton hicks had picked up and intensified quite a bit lately. nothing that i can't bear, just uncomfortable. i mentioned that i felt like i had a bowling ball between my legs (ask anyone at school....the "waddling" is definitely happening). so dr. smith decides to check and see if i was losing any amniotic fluid and went ahead and checked my cervix. no amniotic fluid, but i am already dilated to 2 cm. and 80% effaced. the nurse was rather impressed. her exact words were, "most women are still closed up very tightly at 38 weeks." dr. smith also mentioned that he could feel her head. (well no wonder i feel like i have a bowling ball between my legs!!) i am thinking everything is fine, but no. the doctor was very concerned about my blood pressure being so high. he had the nurses hook me up to some monitors (one for allie's heartbeat, one for contractions). allie didn't move at all for 20 minutes. they gave me graham crackers to eat hoping that some food would make her move. nope. my contractions were in the 50's and 60's. her heart rate was around the 130's. after about 15 minutes, i had 3 nurses, dr. smith, and the ultrasound tech all in the little room with me deciding what they wanted to do. (talk about making a girl nervous) so, they send me for an ultrasound to make sure allie is okay. she finally moved....thank goodness! oh but wait......it's still not over yet. after the ultrasound, dr. smith sends me to the lab to get blood work done. he was worried about quite a number of things that could go wrong with my blood pressure being so high....mainly my kindeys and liver. so i have to call later on this morning and see what the results are and we'll go from there. i'm nervous, anxious, excited.....allie could come at any time now.....especially since i lost the mucus plug yesterday too. (sorry if that's tmi)
my long term sub has been warned and she's actually going to come to school tomorrow just in case i have to leave. dr. smith said i can go to work as long as my blood pressure is okay. but if it's high, i have to stay at home. we shall see in a few hours. keep us in your thoughts and prayers!
