17 weeks

so i'm actually one day shy of being 17 weeks. but anyway, i went today for the "16 week" check-up. now at my last visit they told me that they would prick my finger at this visit. (those of you who know me best, you know i don't like needles at all. say what you want. i don't believe i'll ever get over this fear. not to mention that the lab downstairs at the doc. office told the nurses to write "alert - fear of needles" on my chart record) so anyway, i walk into this visit ready (and nervous, i might add) to have my finger pricked. they weigh me (we won't go there), and i nervously ask her about pricking my finger. she says "no i'm not going to prick your finger today." i breathe a sigh of relief. then she proceeds to take my blood pressure 140/90. "ooo...that's kind of high" she says to me. well what do you think? you said you were going to prick my finger and didn't. i was all worked up and nervous for nothing. she waits a little while and takes it again. 130/90. she still is not happy. i go into the next room and lie down. she takes it again. 116/60. perfect. are you finally happy woman? "that's better elizabeth" she says. well, i'm glad you like it now. moral of this story is....please tell me the truth. don't tell me you're going to prick my finger if you're really not going to. thank you.

my mom went with me to this visit and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat which was 152. i was rather happy because according to the old wives tale, a heartbeat over 140 is a girl. well, we'll find out next time. the baby was once again very active. she found the heartbeat and then it was gone. the baby moved. she found the heartbeat again, then the baby moved again. i think i'm gonna call my baby "wiggle worm." i also think that my child might come out needing adhd medicine. but they say "a moving baby is a healthy baby." our next appointment is oct. 20. josh and i are super excited about our upcoming visit. what do you think: boy or girl?

  1. You'll want a girl to start with. Boys are very hard, if I know! That sweet angel you have in your classroom is still sweet but not that angelic at home! =D Catherine was much easier, she still is, and she's four years older than her brother.. but anyway, as long as the baby is healthy, gender doesn't really matter. I'm really happy for you and can't wait to find out as well! <3

  2. This is so funny because I go back on October 20th as well. The only difference is that I go to a specialist for my ultrasounds (thanks to the complications in the beginning) and will find out what we are having on the 9th. I think you are going to have a girl but that is just my gut! Glad everything went well talk to you soon!
