dianne: "good morning, this is dianne from children's medical center. how are you? what time would you like to come in today for jake's bili-ruben level to be tested?"
me: "we'll i already have an appointment for monday to get that checked."
dianne: "were you not aware that dr. chea wanted you to come in today?"
me: "no. but i very well could have missed that she said that. even though i'm not pregnant any more, i still have pregnancy brain sometimes."
dianne: (laughing) "how soon can y'all get here?"
me: (it's 8:45am) "ummm....10ish"
dianne: "great! we'll see you then"
as i wake up josh to tell him we've got to go to the doctor, he is grumbling and wondering why we have to go again (seems like we've lived there this past month). the more we talked about why she would want us to come again so soon, (keep in mind that we went on thursday (2 days before) for his one month check up, bili-ruben test, and hep. b shot) the more sense it made. what if his levels went way back up? dr. chea was just being cautious about it. and the fact that she called the office (randomly this morning, i might add) concerned about jake and not wanting to wait until monday to make sure the levels dropped shows how much she cares about her patients. so our "surprise visit" went well. the bili-ruben level was down from 13.8 to 12.8 in 2 days and hopefully by monday it will be even lower.
