i can't believe that in 6 more months jake will be a year old! he is really growing up fast. i love how he sits with me (like now) while i'm typing on the computer. he is just so calm watching me type. sometimes, he even tries to help me type. jake is into everything these days. he wants to play with and hold everything that we do. he even likes to drink out of our cups (don't worry, we drink water). jake always gets compliments on how beautiful his eyes are. he smiles at the people he knows. he's already having some separation anxiety issues in the nursery at church. it breaks my heart to hear him crying when i leave, but i know that he eventually stops and has fun.jake has been sitting up all by himself since the middle of the summer. he hit that milestone early. however, he still cannot roll over and he still is not a fan of tummy time. jake absolutely loves to play in the water. sometimes we'll hold him over the sink and let him play in the running water. today, it was raining and we sat on the front porch. jake saw some water dripping from the roof and started waving his arms and legs with excitement. so i let him play in the dripping water. he was so happy. and of course, at bath time we've found a new way to sit in his little bath seat. he loved playing in the water while the bath tub was filling up. when i turned turned the water off, he looked at me like

"what in the world did you turn the water off for, mommy?" then we just laughed and played in the water. we go back to the doctor for his 6 month check up next friday. i'm pretty sure he won't be in his infant car seat for too much longer. a sweet lady from church gave us a car seat that holds up to 50 lbs. he is a big boy but he really doesn't have rolls. he's just solid. jake loves to play. he listens when books are read to him. he also loves to help turn the pages. he loves to stand up (with our support) and he's even trying this army crawl thing. he thinks it's funny. jake was sleeping through the night and here lately, he's been waking up a lot. we're not sure if he's teething or if it's just a change thing because i'm not with him all day anymore. hopefully, he'll outgrow this soon. he still is wearing his 3-6 month outfits. his sleepers are getting a little tight though. he wears a size 3 in diapers. he is such a sweet boy and loves to laugh. i can't wait to see what the next month (and the next, and the next, etc) brings!!
update :: we went for his 6 month check up yesterday. he weighs 19 1/2 lbs. (80th percentile), he is 27 1/4 inches long (76th percentile) and his head is 17 3/4 (83rd percentile). needless to say, he's a big boy. dr. chea was very pleased. she also was very impressed with the fact that he can sit up without any support. he met all his developmental milestones (good head control, babbling and cooing, follows objects, transfers objects from hand to hand, smiles and laughs, and grasps objects). there's only one thing he still can't do....roll over. dr. chea said that he will eventually be able to do that and by 9 months she wants him crawling. we get to move on to the stage 2 foods and try a sippy cup. and here's the hard thing....since he isn't sleeping through the night and is waking up anywhere from 3-8 times, we have to change his schedule. he only gets one nap in the morning for 30 minutes. then after his wish feeding, he will need to take a 2 hr. nap. then in the early evening, he will take one more 30 min. nap to last him until bedtime. the amount of ounces that he's getting in the day is on the low end. here's why....after he eats his meals (rice cereal, 1/2 veg. and 1/2 fruit) he doesn't really want anything to do with his little 4 oz. bottle. so he's really only getting the 7 oz. for breakfast, 7 oz. mid-day, and 8 oz. for bedtime....totaling 22 oz. of formula a day. (you'd think he would be skinner than he is) but she advised us to not drop any lower. and even though he's a bigger baby, she would like for him to drink a little more formula than that. so we're backing off a little on the rice cereal (instead of 2 tbsp, we'll do 1 tbsp) and hope that he drinks more of his bottle. i saved the best news for last....his bottom right tooth should make an appearance any day now. we're just so happy that our sweet little boy is doing so well now. he sure is making up for all the weight that he didn't gain in the beginning.
